“Frequently it is those on the frontline of our healthcare system who think up innovative ways to solve problems they encounter during the course of their working lives,” says Mark Helmich, the managing director of GX, the company who has designed award winning medical and surgical products.
“Over the past thirty years we have worked with nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and doctors to help them turn their brilliant ideas into commercial reality. Quite often these ideas start with a conversation – which is why we are excited to be attending MediWales Connects.”
GX is one of the exhibitors planning to attend the NHS’s Collaboration Conference to be held in association with MediWales at Swansea University on 2nd July. This annual event is the perfect forum to encourage collaboration between the Welsh health boards, the wider industry and local product design engineering companies like GX.
Mark will be joined by business development manager, Claire Banks. Together Mark and Claire will be on hand to discuss some of the innovative medical design products that GX has developed, such as the working prototype of a compact surgical smoke evacuator.
“The idea for this medical product came from a surgeon keen to find a safe way to disperse ‘surgical smoke’. Our help was needed to develop a working prototype from their designs to help gain funding,” comments Mark.
“Since the whole focus of MediWales Connects is on sharing clinical innovations and improving patient outcomes, we never know what sort of ideas people will discuss with us. Quite often they will have seen we have designed a product in a similar field so know that we would be an ideal company to partner with to develop their idea into a commercially viable product,” he concludes.
