GX’s contribution to the medical devices industry

13 August 2019

GX has developed innovative products across a broad range of sectors since it was founded in 1987, working with companies such as L'Oreal, Ford, BMW and Kraft. Over their 32 years in business GX has made a significant contribution to the medical devices industry working with multinationals such as Bayer and Pall, as well as more local companies such as Energist Ultra and Magstim, to develop medical product designs that improve patient outcomes.

Some of the medical products GX has helped design have even been recognised with national awards. One such product is the Medaphor ScanTrainer, which was awarded the Healthcare Business Export Achievement Award.

The ScanTrainer™ is an ultrasound training aid designed to assist with transvaginal ultrasound scanning. The original model was so successful that Medaphor asked GX to expand the device’s capabilities so that it could easily adapt to teach transabdominal training too. Copenhagen University Hospital conducted a study of the ScanTrainer™, finding that using the device greatly accelerated ultrasound scanning skills.

Another GX designed medical product, the Bayer Clinitek Status, has set the industry standard for cost-effective, accurate urine sample analysis and is on sale in over 100 countries. The product was later acquired by Siemens and is still being produced.

As well as developing innovative medical product designs, GX supports the life science and health technology community in Wales as a corporate partner of MediWales. Since 2012, GX has sponsored and attended MediWales events, sharing clinical innovations and working to help the Welsh healthcare community improve patient outcomes by developing cutting-edge medical products.

GX business development manager, Claire Banks says:

“We’re proud of our track record producing product designs for the medical devices industry.

“Quite often clients see we have designed a product in a similar field, and because of our experience and the multidisciplinary approach of our team, they know we would be an ideal company to partner with to develop their idea further.

“Through our partnership with MediWales, we’re able to meet and talk with many life sciences researchers and developers. This opportunity for collaboration and idea sharing helps us to stay up to date with the latest industry developments so we can offer our assistance and share how we’re helping to drive innovation in the medical devices field.”
