At the forthcoming MedTech Show to be held in Coventry on 20-21 April, medical product designer GX will be part of the delegation from Medilink exhibiting on Stand 50.
Over the past 30 years, GX has designed an impressive array of products for use by the medical industry. With limited space on the stand shared with the Welsh delegation GX picked one product to showcase their complete range of skills, a radio linked pager device, Callaid. This rugged device was developed for the healthcare profession, many of whom frequently work remotely, allowing them to page for assistance from a colleague or raise the alarm should they feel threatened.
Everything from the design of exterior to the software needed to power the device and the intricate electronic engineering inside was completed at GX’S base in Usk by their product design team. This co-ordinated approach to the design of Callaid, ensured that this project could be completed quickly and most importantly to a strict budget.
The product design team at GX packed Callaid with ingenuitive features including a 3.8v Li-ion or 3.8v Li-polymer battery, a micro USB connector to receive software upgrades whilst recharging the battery, plus preselected information to broadcast to other pagers. Whilst at the base of the pager, the team designed a pull mechanism that a wearer could pull if they felt in danger.
Representing GX on the Medilink stand will be managing director, Mark Helmich, accompanied by business development manager Claire Banks. As Mark notes, choosing just one product to take to this new enlarged medical show proved difficult. “At GX we have built a reputation for turning brilliant ideas into many practical products for a number of industries including the medical profession,” said Mark. “We settled on Callaid because it incorporates the diverse set of skills that we have under one roof, from mechanical design engineering, to software development, electronic engineering and even value engineering. By harnessing the skills from multiple disciplines we are able to design innovative products.”
