For athletes to perform at their best they practice and maintain a healthy lifestyle; what of the track that they use? The NIAC (National Indoor Athletics Centre) at Cardiff Metropolitan University was the first purpose built indoor athletics track in the UK. This specialised running track has bends that can be raised and lowered according to the race, all of which must be regularly maintained. This highly technical track is looked after and maintained by Welsh based GX Systems, part of the GX Group.
As the Glasgow 2014 XX Commonwealth Games near, training has stepped up for those keen to compete, so NIAC is being used on a regular basis by the Welsh Athletic Team the Welsh Netball Association (WNA). To ensure that the track reaches its full potential GX Systems has just undertaken routine maintenance of the track.
The trained engineers from GX Systems spent time inspecting the electrical panels and hydraulic systems for wear and tear and to guarantee the correct operation. This maintenance also included the calibration of the bend position in the down (zero) position, earth bonding and earth leakage tests, voltage levels and a check for any oil leaks along the whole hydraulic system.
GX Group is proud of their association with NIAC and to be supporting our athletes in achieving their sporting ambitions; we wish all the Welsh team the very best.
