Ultra Electronics Rio Pro
The Challenge
The product development team at GX were asked to design a new top of the range ID card printer for professional use, building upon their own initial award winning chassis with a focus on value engineering. The printer needed to supply ID cards of a superior print quality and be able to do ‘edge to edge’ printing.
The Solution
The team at GX had pioneered the first innovative plastic chassis for the Magicard printer back in 2002, following a value engineering exercise. For this new printer - the Magicard Rio Pro, the design team at GX decided to design the tough, high throughput printer with strong visual styling that would set it apart from the competition.
Their industrial design incorporated several upgrades to the new product, including optional lockable hoppers for security and field upgrades from single to double sided printing. Most importantly the product engineering team at GX designed the new Rio Pro with fast assembly times and low cost production in mind.
The Result
Built for professionals, the Rio Pro has become the flagship product of the Magicard range with multiple spin off variants available. It has become the trusted ID card printer for secure ID badges, membership cards, smart cards and access control badges for hundreds of companies and organisations worldwide.
