Speedwrap® Pro – industry leading dispenser for storing and dispensing clingfilm, foil and parchment

Speedwrap® Pro

The Challenge

The Speedwrap® Pro has been specifically designed and developed for storing and dispensing Prowrap’s industry-leading films, foils, and parchments for use in professional kitchens. GX Group worked with Prowrap to design and develop the Speedwrap® Pro.

Prowrap’s mission is to offer customers  ‘unbeatable quality and excellent value.’ Their brief to GX was to create ‘a dispensing unit that is robust, easy to use, aesthetically pleasing and, above all, commercially viable.’

Our design team is adept at meeting this type of brief. Creating innovative design and high-quality products is core to the work we do at GX. But also, ensuring the products we develop can be manufactured and brought to market at a viable cost is crucial to achieving a successful outcome for our clients.

The Solution

Drawing on experience gained working on other similar products we worked to develop a high-quality unit. Applying our tried and tested value engineering process ensured that the end product would also be cost-effective to manufacture, thus ensuring a competitive retail price.

We explored using different materials and various options for manufacturing the units. Injection moulding turned out to be the most economical way to produce the casement, alongside laser cut metal parts.

Staged approval phases allowed our designers to carefully check and refine designs throughout the process, ensuring the end product would be exactly as required.

In addition to the design and development, GX also arranged for the units to be tested and approved at an external testing laboratory before proceeding with manufacturing.

The Result

Two models of the Speedwrap® Pro have been created – a larger model, the Pro 450, and a more compact version the Pro 300. These popular units have gained renown for their capacity to withstand use in the high-pressure environment of a commercial kitchen.

Since the original design, the unit has been upgraded to enhance safety, sustainability, and efficiency. The latest model includes a patented sheathed safety blade and antimicrobial technology, and is compatible with recyclable films.

Chair of Prowrap, Joe Barry said; “We’re centred on real-world culinary frustrations and our development strategy involves listening to customers and ensuring that we meet their exact needs. The success the Speedwrap® Pro unit shows how well this strategy works. Now, no professional kitchen would be considered fully equipped without one of our professional-grade film and foil dispensers.”
