At work Michael Cox spends his days deliberating how to devise complicated electrical panel boards for the many products that GX design and develop. A qualified electronic engineer by day, at the weekend as a complete departure from his day job, Mike is a member of the Gwent Sword Club.
Mike and his fellow team mates are now celebrating a well-deserved second place after winning a silver medal at the recent Welsh Team Foil Event held at Sofia Gardens in Cardiff on Saturday 23rd April. It was whilst watching the Olympic fencing competitions broadcast during London 2012, that Mike decided to take up the tactical sport of fencing.
“Fencing is a great way to keep fit and active,” notes Mike. “It’s also a good way to combine sport with my day job, since all the modern equipment now has electrical components which registers if a fencer has been hit or not!” Mikes weapon of choice is the foil, the smallest of the three weapon choices but one of the more demanding and tactical pieces of equipment in the gentlemanly sport.
