This year’s annual MediWales Innovation Awards took a slightly different format to previous years since their fifteenth annual awards ceremony was held entirely online. 2020 has been a year like no other and MediWales praised those who had risen to the challenge of fighting the pandemic with their standout innovative projects to help combat Covid-19.
The team at GX were not only involved with one of the winning projects - the ‘Start Up Award, won by Llusern Scientific; managing director Mark Helmich was part of the panel to choose the winner of the Industry Judges Award.
“It has been fantastic to see the collaboration and speed at which companies and the NHS Teams mobilised in response to Covid-19,” commented Mark Helmich.
“At a time when the world was literally halted in it’s tracks, it has been very gratifying to see how brilliant ideas have been transformed into commercial reality. Our team of design engineers are immensely proud to have been part of the team led by Llusern Scientific to design, build and now test an affordable, rapid test to detect Covid-19 within 30 minutes.”
Mark and his fellow MediWales judges were impressed by the partnership between Hybrisan and Gwalia Healthcare, awarding them the Industry Judges Award. Together the companies have developed a novel surface and hand sanitiser which is non-hazardous and doesn’t use alcohol.
“I’d like to congratulate each and every company who took part in this year’s Innovation Awards,” concludes Mark. “There have been some truly remarkable achievements.”
